
Funeral services will be 2:00 Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Gadsden Cumberland Presbyterian Church for Dorothy Deleene Campbell Benson, 87, of Hokes Bluff, who passed away Sunday, January 19, 2014. Rev. Daniel Barkley will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Mrs. Benson was a member of Gadsden Cumberland Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years where she was very active up to the time of her illness. She served as Sunday School teacher, Secretary, and Treasurer of the Women’s Ministry, and sang in the Sanctuary choir. She was a 1945 graduate of Gadsden High School. She retired from Rainbow Medical.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Benson, Sr.; parents, Elmer and Eleanor Campbell; brother, Roy W. Campbell; son-in-law, Allen F. Thornton; and great-granddaughter, Ally Benson.
She is survived by her children: Sharon “Pug” (Sonny) Brady, of Gadsden, AL, William L. (Annette) Benson, Jr., of Columbus, MS, and Sylvia Thornton, of Dothan, AL; grandchildren: Carl Brady, Connie (Chris) Brannon, Brian (Jennifer) Benson, Bryon (Melanie) Benson, Wes (Dervon) Thornton, and Katie (Ben) Parrish; Chosen grandchildren, Jason and Jeaneane Gentry; great-grandchildren: Jessica (Matt) Hincy, Kolby Brannon, Avery Benson, Claire Benson, Lily Benson, Brooke Allen Parrish, Blake Allen Thornton, Jase Gentry, and Aby Gentry; great-great-granddaughter, Jesslyn Faith Hincy; sister, Jean Falls, of Hoover, AL; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be: all family members and friends; the church family of Gadsden Cumberland Presbyterian Church; the Gleaners Circle; the Loyalty Sunday School Class; the CP Women’s Ministry; her loving and faithful caregivers that have become like family to us, Ellie Maciulewicz, Tommie Bryant, Sandy Webb, Bobbi (Leonard)Reynolds, and Beth Beddingfield; Richard Dean, and Lisa Kirby.
Special thanks to Southern Care Hospice; her nurse, Virgie Gowens; her aide, Jess Allsup; and the staff of Hugh’s Pharmacy.

The family will accept friends from 12:30-2:00 p.m. at Gadsden Cumberland Presbyterian Church prior to the service on Wednesday.
