E. Barry Loveman

Barry Loveman, 79, of Gadsden, AL, passed away on December 24 surrounded by his family. He graduated from Gadsden High School in 1960 and obtained a degree from the University of Alabama in 1965. While at Alabama he indulged in his great love for Alabama football and was an active member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

After college he joined the United States Army. Upon returning to Gadsden he started a successful real estate firm, Loveman Realty, and became the developer of Westminster Subdivision. He remained with Loveman Realty until his retirement in 2021. He also owned and operated Loveman Travel Services.

Barry was a force to be reckoned with on the golf course, obtaining no less than four club championships at the Gadsden Country Club and winning numerous statewide tournaments. He helped build the Alabama Republican Party as Chairman of the Etowah County Republican Party from 1978-1984. He was an active member of the Gadsden Rotary Club, and helped with the Children’s Christmas event to ensure those in need had a joyful Christmas.

Most of all though, Barry loved his family. He was blessed with 50 years of marriage to his loving wife, Judi; children, Kris Loveman Elliott (Fred), Brooke Loveman Wilkerson (Lee), and Rhett Barry Loveman (Margaret) all of Birmingham; grandchildren Ann Sutherland and Henry Rolling Elliott, Garner Scott, Emily Rollins, and John Ellis Wilkerson, and Virginia Claire, William Lent, John Spencer, and Andrew Charles Loveman; a brother, Dr. Alan Crain Loveman (Tibby); and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Margurie Crain Loveman and Eugene David Loveman, the proprietors of the Loveman Department Store.

Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM, Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at First United Methodist Church in Gadsden, AL where he was a lifelong member. A private family burial will follow.
