

Elizabeth McCartney Carter, age 84 of Rainbow City, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2014. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM Monday, September 15th in Collier- Butler’s chapel followed by the burial at Hopewell Cemetery. Brother Rodney Prickett and Brother Bobby Joe Winningham will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6-8:00PM at the funeral home. Collier- Butler Funeral and Cremation Services are directing.
Elizabeth was a lifelong resident of Etowah County. She retired from Etowah County Board of Education and served as the lunchroom manager of Southside Elementary. She has always been a member of Riddles Bend Baptist Church, and she was also a member of The Joy Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Carter was a loving and faithful wife, daughter, and mother. She loved church, family, and her community. She always put others first and comforted and cared for countless friends and family over the years. Elizabeth had a wonderful sense of humor that brightened the lives of those that knew and loved her. She was an amazing woman who will be missed by all.
Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband, Ford Carter; father, John Thomas McCartney; mother, Evie McCartney Hill; and her brothers, Jimmy, Tommy, and Barney McCartney.
Survivors include sons, Glenn (Susan) Carter, Tim ( Michelle) Carter; daughter, Lana (Darrin) Fulenwider; grandchildren, Joy Carter (Michael Souder) Flemons, Chris (Whitney) Carter, Landon (Haley) Weldon, Logan (Heather) Carter, Leigh Anne and Kate Fulenwider, Laura Bush, Brittany Strickland, Ginger Meeks; great grandchildren, Jakob and Caleb Flemons, James and Meera Carter, Grayson Carter; special brother, Hoyt (Joyce) Hill; and chosen children, Scott, Paige, Sydney, and Morgan McCullars.
Pallbearers will be Perry, Tony and Shane McCartney, Jack Carter, Ricky Hill, and James Carter. Honorary pallbearers will be Nieces, nephews, Joy Sunday School Class, and many family and friends
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Webb Sledge, Dr. Elquis Castillo, Sharon Garmany and the staff of the 7th floor at Riverview Regional Medical Center, and Tyler Pence and Brandy Parker with Amedysis Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Riddle Bend Baptist Church.
