

Evan K. Edge, 72, of Gadsden, Alabama, passed away on May 16, 2026. Born on December 28, 1953, Evan lived a life defined by athletic excellence, decades of devoted service to his customers and community, and the love of his family and many friends.
A 1972 graduate of Gadsden High School, Evan distinguished himself as a standout quarterback on the football field and a talented catcher on the baseball diamond. That same year, he was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 31st round of the MLB June Amateur Draft. He went on to extend his baseball career at Louisiana State University, and in 1974 he returned home to join the JSU Gamecocks at Jacksonville State University. His talent and dedication earned him another professional opportunity in 1975, when he was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 16th round of the MLB June Amateur Draft. In recognition of his athletic accomplishments and contributions, Evan was inducted into the Etowah County Sports Hall of Fame in 1998.
In 1981, Evan transitioned from the diamond to the automotive industry, joining the team at Sutherlin Toyota. He found his second calling in serving others, and over the course of more than four decades, he welcomed thousands of customers as friends and neighbors. He spent the latter chapter of his career at Team One Toyota in Rainbow City, Alabama, where his integrity, warmth, and unwavering work ethic left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cotton and Sis Edge.
He is survived by his sons, Adam Edge, Alex Edge, and Andrew Edge; his daughter-in-law, Kristine Edge; his grandson, Andrew Evan Edge Jr.; and his brothers, Craig Edge, Joe Edge, Jon Edge, and Gary Vandergrift; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Collier-Butler Chapel. Rev. Bruce Word will officiate. Burial will follow at Crestwood Cemetery. The family will accept friends from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service at the funeral home. Collier-Butler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Scott Brackett, Joe Billingsley, Kyle Chambers, Larry Peppers, Bill Lockridge, Chuck Medders, and Rickey Armstrong.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Silver Lakes Assisted Living, McGuffey’s Healthcare Center, and the nurses at Riverview Regional Medical Center.
Evan will be deeply missed by his family, his many friends, and the community he served so faithfully.
