George Todd Shaw

Mr. George Todd Shaw, age 88, of Gadsden, AL, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023. A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. Tommy Hughes, Andrew Conyer, and David Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow at Crestwood Cemetery. The family will accept friends from 10:00AM until the hour of the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Shaw was born on April 4, 1934, in Cherokee County, Alabama, to his parents James and Edna Shaw. He attended school in Gaylesville, Alabama. He married Helen Faye (Johnson) Shaw, the love of his life, on July 12, 1953. Mr. Shaw worked many years as a heavy machinery operator, building bridges and roads. In 1977 he started his own business, Etowah Asphalt and Paving Company, where he worked for 25 years. He was a charter member of Riverbend Baptist Church. Mr. Shaw was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Helen Faye Shaw; his parents, James and Edna Shaw; his father and mother-in-law, Earl and Roxie Johnson; brothers, OB Shaw, Bernard Shaw, and Otis Shaw; and sisters, Thelma Norman and Helen Bobo.

Mr. Shaw is survived by his daughter, Vicki (Mike) Conyer; grandson, Andrew (Hannah) Conyer; great grandson, Warner Todd Conyer; brother, RL Shaw; brother-in-law, David Johnson; sisters-in-law, Ramona Nash and Leona Shaw; special friend and chosen daughter, Angela Bledsoe; and several nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Conyer, David Johnson, Jr., Patrick Nash, Gregory Johnson, Jonathan Johnson, Brett Watts, and Andrew Beck.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Thomas Harper, Tommy Hughes, Charles Easterwood, and Riverbend Baptist Church.

The family wishes to express a special thanks to his caregiver Rose Cain. Also, thanks to Amedisys Hospice, and Eighth floor staff of Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
