

James “Jim” Ellis Day, Jr., age 70 of Gadsden, went to be with the Lord Friday, May 15, 2015. The funeral service will be at 3:00 PM, Monday, May 18, 2015 at MeadowBrook Baptist Church. Pastor Randy Gunter, Pastor Gary Cardwell, and Pastor Fred Rivers will officiate. The family will accept friends from 1- 3:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow at Williams Southside Memorial Park. Collier- Butler Funeral and Cremation Services will be directing.
Jim was born in Birmingham, AL to James Ellis and Mary Cook Day. He attended Ensley High School and The University of Montevallo. He was retired from State Farm Insurance. Jim was a member of MeadowBrook Baptist Church where he served on the board of deacons. He loved his church and all the people of MeadowBrook. Jim loved life, and he lived every moment to the fullest. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved to spend time at his hunting club and farm in Roanoke, AL. Jim was a Master Gardener and enjoyed working in the yard with his flowers and vegetable garden. He was a loyal, loving husband who loved his wife and family. His greatest joy in recent years was spending time with his grandchildren, Miles and Jay.
Jim is survived by his wife, Amelia Herring Day; children, Jaime Day of Huntsville, AL, Jennifa (Dan) Kirkpatrick; grandsons, Miles Kirkpatrick, James “Jay” Kirkpatrick; sisters, Peggy (Robert) Vann, Janice (Fred) Rivers; brother, John (Sharon) Day; nephews, Rob (Shannon) Vann, Cameron Day; niece, Robin (Robert) Bagwell; and his aunts and uncles, EE (Buddy) and Doris Franklin of Birmingham, AL, and Bob and Ann Day of Pell City, AL.
Pallbearers will be Steve Andrew, Sloan Bunton, Gary Fox, Sam Heide, Dallas McElroy, Mike McLain, Ron Moon, and David Schmuck.
Honorary pallbearers will be MeadowBrook Baptist Church Deacons, Robert Bagwell, Johnny Dann, Cameron Day, John Day, Don Franklin, Robert Vann, Rob Vann, the guys at The Rat Shack, and members of Alabama Sportsman Hunting Club.
