
Mr. James Michael who passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2011 after a brief illness. The Reverends Stuart Higginbotham and Joan Henrick will officiate. Cremation Services provided by Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services.
He is survived by his two children, James Randall Michael (Nina), and Karen Michael Takada (Hideo). Three grandchildren, Eric Michael, Jason Michael and Tomomi Takada. Special friend, Marianne Stokes. One great-grandchild, Kaitlin Michael. Sister, Christine Chambers. Several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by Doris Michael and his parents, Nathan and Pearl Michael and sister Jewell Teal.
Mr. Michael was a lifelong resident of Gadsden, Alabama. He served his country in the U.S. Navy in WW II. He began his 68 year career in the optical business in 1943. His career started at American Optical in 1943. He worked in the medical practice of M. Dale Smith, M.D. for almost 40 years. The final 20 years of his career was spent at James Michael Optical Service. He was a devoted father, grandfather and brother. He enjoyed travel, reading and a good debate. He was a regular at Jack's downtown or on the drive where he spent many happy mornings with treasured friends. He collected friends and good projects.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or a favored charity.
The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to services on Sunday-October 9, 2011. Condolences may be given to the family at www.collier-butler.com
