

Graveside services for Jeffie Burns Latham, age 80, of Gadsden, will be at 12:00pm, Monday, October 29, 2018 at Forrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00am until 11:45am at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. Rev. Harry Whitt will be officiating the service. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Jeffie was a graduate of Emma Sansom High School. She furthered her education at Jacksonville State University and the University of Alabama, where she received her Master’s Degree and Education Specialist Degree. She then went to teach in many schools while she was an Airforce wife. She retired from Centre Elementary School in Cherokee County. Jeffie enjoyed cruises and traveling with her husband Lt. Col. Whitt Latham. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Retired Educators of Cherokee County, Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Delta Kappa, Mt. Carmel Church, where she was the director of WMU.
She is preceded by her husband of 56 years, Lt. Col. Whitt Latham; parents, Dr. C.R.D. and Rita Burns; brother, Douglas (Laura) Burns.
Jeffie is survived by her children, Jeffrey Whitt (Melissa) Latham; Bobby (Lane) Latham; grandchildren, Devin Rae, Jeffrey Seth, and Abbey Kate Latham; sisters Mary Burns (Bud) Wilson and Rita Lois (Frank) Smith; sisters-in-law, Sonia (Bob) Smith and Nancy (Stan) Crowley; several other family members; special friends, Donna Nail, Patricia Waldrop, and Betsy and Laurel.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Jeffie’s caregivers, Jane, Mallie, Rena Martin, Belinda Lodge, Justin, Lotus Wright, Buddie Gray and Sandra Young.
