

Jean Johnston Cambron, 93, passed away at Chapman’s Healthcare in Alexander City, Alabama, on August 3, 2025.
She was born on August 21, 1931, in Williams Community, Calhoun County, Alabama, to Mr. and Mrs. Zebbie Arvin Johnston. She was the youngest of ten children and was the last surviving sibling until her death. She was a graduate of Jacksonville High School and attended Jacksonville State University.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her four brothers, her five sisters, and her husband of 65 years, Charles L. Cambron. Gadsden was their home where they lived, worked, and raised their two daughters. She was a member of 12th Street Baptist Church. She was also employed as a bookkeeper for Stowers Manufacturing Company for over forty years.
Left to cherish wonderful memories are daughters Beth Hill (Wayne), Nancy Bice; Grandchildren Josh Hill(Heather), Emily Hanner(Kevin), Andrew Bice(Kaylin), Bennett Bice(Cheyenne) and Cambron Bice, great-grandchildren Charlie Ward Hanner and Smyth Ann Bice. When grandchildren came into her life, she was given her favorite title, “Mamaw” and she loved and embraced every minute of being “Mamaw” to her five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mamaw and Papaw left an indelible legacy of faith, a godly marriage, and love for family for their children and grandchildren to follow. “Her children rise up and call her blessed….” Proverbs 31:28
Pallbearers will be grandsons; Josh Hill, Andrew Bice, Bennett Bice, Cambron Bice, Kevin Hanner, and special friend, Ray Grigsby.
A visitation for Jean will be held Friday, August 8, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Collier-Butler Funeral & Cremation Services, 824 Rainbow Drive, Gadsden, Alabama 35901, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM
Her family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff of Chapman’s Healthcare to all who participated in her care especially her primary caregiver, Shirley Hutchins and Gabby Spradley, who showed unwavering love and devotion to her.
