

Jimmy (Lucky) Mathis, age 78, of Gadsden, AL passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. Bro. Billy Boatwright will officiate. He will be laid to rest at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. The family will accept friends from 9:30 am until the hour of the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.
Jimmy was a Navy Veteran. He received the national defense service metal, Vietnam service metal with two bronze stars, Republic of Vietnam campaign metal with device, Republic of Vietnam meritorious unit citation for aboard the USS Iwo Jima. Jimmy loved to golf, enjoyed horse racing, and dog tracks. His family meant the world to him. He will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Acton and Irene Mathis; brothers, Ted Mathis and Don Mathis; grandson, Cody Nelson; and brothers-in-law, Barry French and Ray Hunter.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janice Mathis; daughters, Sonya (Corey) McCurdy and Moni (Scoupe) NeSmith; son, Brian Green; grandchildren, Dylan Bellew, Sydnee Snider, Kenzie McCurdy, Arden Cromer, Noah Nelson, Erin McCurdy, Gauge NeSmith, and Jaxson McCurdy; great grandchildren, Scout Weathington and Ford Snider; siblings, Pat Hunter, Belinda (Jim) Brown, and Janice French.
