Jimmy was born May 2, 1939. He was a graduate of Hokes Bluff High School, class of 1956. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served as an Engine Cadet aboard many ships and submarines. He worked in the construction industry until his retirement in 2010. He spent his retirement woodworking in his shop, fishing, and spending time with his family.
Jim is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Glenda Hood Sewell; parents, Calvin and Ruth Sewell; brother, Junior Sewell; and sisters, Nettie Hammett and Marie Osborne.
Jim is survived by his children: Son Micky Sewell and his wife Angie Sewell of Acworth, GA and daughter Melissa Cosby and her husband Michael Cosby of Heflin, AL; sister Joyce Sewell of Hokes Bluff, AL ; five grandchildren Corey Sewell, Jacob Sewell, Adam Lane, Alexandra Sewell, and Benjamin Cosby; six great grandchildren Karter Payne, Talon Sewell, Calvin Sewell, Charles Sewell, Kadison Sewell, and Baylor Cosby; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to acknowledge and express their gratitude to Chad and Dreama Gwyn for opening their home and caring for Jim during his last days and months with us.
In addition, we would like to thank Kindred Hospice Care, Jim's nurses Amanda Jones and Tami Sims, and Katie Holley his aide for their service and care.
The family will receive friends from 11 AM until 2 PM Friday, April 29 , 2022, with the service immediately following at Collier Butler Chapel, 824 Rainbow Drive, Gadsden, AL 35901. Mark Howington will officiate Interment will be at Crestwood Mausoleum, 2209 East Broad Street, Gadsden, AL 35903. Collier Butler Funeral Home will direct services.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Sewell, Adam Lane, Benjamin Cosby, Kenny Willett, Jeff Dilg, Matthew Johnson, Kenny Smith, and Chad Gwyn.
