

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 12, 2015 at McCauley’s Chapel Methodist Church for John “L.T.” Dovers, 91, of Gadsden, who passed away Friday, April 10, 2015. He will lie in state from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at the church. Rev. Curtis Scott and Rev. Doug Turner will officiate. Graveside services will be at Forrest Cemetery with full Military Honors. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Mr. Dovers was an active member of McCauley’s Chapel Methodist Church. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne during World War II in which he received a Purple Heart. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant with 26 years of service and two tours of duty during the Vietnam War in which he was awarded the Bronze Star.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Geneva Dovers; parents, John and Maggie Dovers; brother, Arthur Dovers; brother-in-law, Raymond Beck; and sister-in-law, Sybil Saint.
Mr. Dovers is survived by his daughter, Pam Johnson; “Son”-in-law, Steve Johnson; his pride and joy grandsons, Jeremy and Lane Johnson; sister, Bonnie Beck; and very special family, Jerry and Pat Johnson, David, Stacy, and Ben Johnson; Beth and Scott Clark; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Steve Johnson, Jeremy Johnson, Lane Johnson, David Johnson, and Gary Burnette.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of McCauley’s Chapel Church and Donnie Keener.
Special thanks to Dr. Erwin Peyton; Gadsden Regional Medical Center 8th and 9th floor nurses and staff; and Collinsville Healthcare.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to McCauley’s Chapel Methodist Church.
The family will accept friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the funeral home.
