Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Collier-Butler Chapel for Johnnie “Bea” Ashley, 88, who passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013. Rev. David Jones, Chaplain of Amedisys Hospice, will officiate. Burial will be at Forrest Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Mrs. Ashley was a member of Crosspoint Church. She was a Registered Nurse for Dr. Savage for many years, but gave it up to raise a family. After she retired she became a wonderful homemaker and cook; her coconut cake, chocolate gravy, and oatmeal daddies were the best. She loved watching Billy Graham and the Walton’s. Most of all, she loved her family, especially her grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hiram R. Ashley; daughter, JoAnn Ashley; and sisters, Willie Lumpkin, and Mary Ruple.
She is survived by her son, John (Kathy) Ashley; grandson, Dawson Ashley; sisters, Bessie Satterfield, and Zadie Johnson; brother, James (Claudette) Spinks; sister, Margaret Spinks; special niece, Paulette Powell; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Limbaugh, Tommie Carr, Steve Swindall, Nick Hall, Shane Hamm, and Dawson Ashley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jarrod Warren and Dr. Dwight Harper.
Special thanks to Kayla Alford, Monica Adams, Michele Rush, and David Jones of Amedisys Hospice, and the staff of Gadsden Healthcare.
Very special thanks to Sadie McGinnis and Ruth Bryant.
The family will accept friends from 10:30-12:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.
