A memorial visitation for Judy Gail Dawson Crain will be held Monday, November 24, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Rainbow Presbyterian Church, 3220 Rainbow Drive, Gadsden, AL 35901, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM.
Judy, a lifelong resident of Gadsden, Alabama, passed away on November 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 9, 1942, Judy attended Gadsden High School, where she met and married the love of her life, Phillip Jon Crain. Together, they shared 66 years of devotion and partnership.
Judy had a passion for dance and served for many years as an instructor in her own studio. This passion lived on in her daughter and granddaughters. While she took time away from dance to care for her son after an injury, her love for it never changed.
Judy came to know Jesus in adulthood and never missed an opportunity to learn more. From that moment on, her faith served as her cornerstone. A devoted and faithful member of Rainbow Presbyterian Church, Judy served in many capacities and ushered many women into a relationship with the Lord. Leading various committees and bible studies, her service to the church was a true example of her devotion to her faith. She cherished spending time with her family. Judy was a true caretaker in every sense of the word and was never short on helpful advice, a related bible verse or a piece of poundcake. “Crainie” to many, Judy instilled her love of the Lord in those around her. When not caring for her children and grandchildren, Judy enjoyed playing golf and was proud to be named the Ladies Golf Champion at the Gadsden Country Club.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, her son Jeff Crain; her brothers Tom (Judy Kay) Dawson, Wayne Dawson and Johnny (Joan) Dawson; and her loving husband, Phillip Jon Crain. She is survived by her sister, Helen Coleman; her brothers, Jim (Kim) Dawson, and Mike (Pam) Dawson; and her children, Jon Crain, James Crain, Jenny Crain (Brent) Means and Thomas (Tiffanie) Crain, and; her grandchildren, Brynn (Mary Catherine), Jake, Ben (Olivia), Gabriel (Payton), Romie, Ellis, Carter, Harper and a baby girl expected in December; and great-grandchildren, McCartney, Beau, Cayson, Eloise, Wrenly and Whitt. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the nursing staff at Riverview Regional Medical Center. To the nursing staff in the ICU, the 6th tower, the cardiac step down unit and those in emergency care, the family is especially grateful for your compassion.
Judy’s legacy of love and true faith will forever live in the hearts of those who knew her, extending for generations to come.
