Kathy Daugherty Silvey, age 75, passed away surrounded by the love of her family. She was a precious mom, mother-in-love, friend, and “Mimi” whose kindness, strength, and compassion touched countless lives.
Kathy began her career as a switchboard operator at Baptist Hospital before moving into the admitting department then became secretary to the director of purchasing. Determined to pursue her calling in healthcare, she worked tirelessly attending paramedic school at night and continuing to work. She later worked second shift on the ambulance while attending nursing school during the day. Her dedication and perseverance led her to a long and meaningful career as a trauma nurse in the emergency room at Gadsden Regional Medical Center, where she faithfully served patients for more than 20 years. Kathy was known as an exceptional nurse who cared deeply for every patient she encountered.
Outside of her work, Kathy found joy in God’s creation. She loved spending time outdoors working in her flowers and yard, making everything around her beautiful and full of life. She also had a tender heart for neglected and abused animals, always wanting to see them loved, rescued, and cared for.
Most importantly, Kathy loved the Lord. She gave her life to Jesus at a young age and was a member of College Heights Baptist Church, where she especially enjoyed attending her ladies’ Sunday School class. She treasured traveling and taking trips with her family, creating memories that will forever be cherished.
Kathy’s greatest accomplishment and deepest joy were her family. Her face would light up whenever she spoke about her children and grandchildren, and she was incredibly proud of the people they had become and the love they showed to others. She was their biggest cheerleader, faithfully supporting them in every season and at every event. Though she will be greatly missed, her family finds comfort in knowing her love, faith, and legacy will continue on through each of them.
She is survived by her sons, Chris (Shelley) Cothran and Todd (Brandi) Cothran; her precious grandchildren, Captain Patrick Chandler (Karlee) Cothran, Emily (Izzy) Cothran-Schwartz, Hannah Cothran, and Mason Robinson; and a very special friend, Deanna Jackson.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gary Silvey of 31 years; her youngest son, Rory Cothran; and her parents, Curtis and Ann Daugherty.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at College Heights Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at the church. Burial will follow at New Bethel Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
