Dr. Lloyd Jackson Miller, a devoted educator, mentor, and principal, passed away on September 26th at the age of 85 in Gadsden, AL. Born on September 2, 1940, in Wytheville, Virginia, Dr. Miller dedicated his life to the service of others through education, compassion, and unwavering leadership.
Lloyd received his bachelors and masters degree from Jacksonville State University. He later received his Ph.D. from the University of Alabama in 1990, a testament to his lifelong love of learning. He began his career in education as an English teacher in the Gadsden City Schools system, where he inspired generations of students with his passion for literature and language. Known for his thoughtful instruction and firm yet kind demeanor, he played a vital role in shaping young minds and futures.
Dr. Miller’s leadership skills and commitment to excellence led him to serve as principal of Disque Middle School, and later, Gadsden High School. In both roles, he earned the respect and admiration of students, faculty, and parents alike. His influence extended well beyond the classroom, touching the lives of countless individuals in the Gadsden community.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Brenda Miller, and his son, Todd Lloyd Miller. Though he endured profound personal loss, Dr. Miller remained a pillar of strength and integrity.
He is survived by his grandson, Nathan Todd Miller and his soon to be great grandson, Dean Nathaniel Miller.
Dr. Miller will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but for his deep commitment to education, his enduring impact on the community, and the wisdom and warmth he shared with all who knew him.
A private service for family and friends will be held to celebrate his life and honor his memory at Forrest Cemetery at 1pm on Thursday, October 15th.
