

Louis Douglas McMeekin (L.D.), 85, of Gadsden went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on April 2, 2014. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather and never missed an opportunity to tell about his pride for his family. He was a long time member of Hokes Bluff Baptist Church and current member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church. He lived in Gadsden, AL for the last 14 years of his life.
L.D. was a patriotic man who loved his country. He served in the United States Navy and was a veteran of The Korean War. After returning home from service, L.D worked for Goodyear Tire & Rubber. He went on to work for Allis Chalmers and later retired from Civil Service at Ft. McClellan.
He was a member of Hokes Bluff Lions Club for 25 years and Boy Scout Troop 82 for 4 years.
As an active member of his community, he had a host of friends that he loved to entertain. He was a charismatic and charming man with a zealous love for life.
L.D. is survived by his loving wife of 8 years, Ina Owens McMeekin ; 2 loving daughters, Marcy McMeekin Womack ( Ron), Melinda McMeekin White ( David), and Phil Owen (step-son); 5 adoring grandchildren, April Sexton ( Orange Beach), Devin White Waldrop ( Tim), Drake White (Nashville), Grant Gulledge ( Nashville), Griffin Gulledge (Birmingham); 3 step-grandchildren, Albert L. Garrett (Barbara Ann), Yvonne Anderson (Washington); 3 precious great-grandchildren, Adrian Waldrop, Jayce Barber and Fischer Waldrop, and 3 great granddaughters by marriage; 2 caring sisters, Francis McGuire(Montgomery) and Winona Weddington; also, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as Alex Mize, fiancé of Drake White (Nashville).
He is preceded in death by the loving mother of his children, Imogene Gaddis McMeekin and his youngest daughter, Melissa McMeekin Gulledge (Harry). Brothers, T.W McMeekin (Louise), Guice McMeekin (Sadie), Herman McMeekin (Charlotte). Sisters, Sue McMeekin Griffith (Henry), Mildred McMeekin Gulledge (Mason), Mary McMeekin Wagnon.
The family will accept visitation at Collier-Butler Funeral Home on Saturday April 5, 2014 from 11-1 p.m., immediately followed by the funeral service and burial at Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Services is directing.
His Grandson, Griffin Gulledge, will officiate the service, as well as his pastor Rev. Randy Gunter (Meadowbrook Baptist Church)
Pallbearers will be Ron Womack, David White, Phil Owens, Drake White, Grant Gulledge and Albert Garrett. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. John Wilborn, Kristy Fox of Comfort Keepers Home Health and Gadsden Regional Hospice.
