Funeral services will be Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Collier-Butler Chapel for Mrs. Lucile Garrard Abel, 92, of Glencoe, who passed away Thursday, April 5, 2012. Rev. Ben Edmondson officiating. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge.
Mrs. Abel was a life-long resident of Etowah County. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Glencoe and was a substitute teacher for many years for the Etowah County School System.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Abel, Sr. , parents; John S. and Annie Belle Shoemaker-Garrard, brothers; Roy, Clyde, Van, F.M. and Johnny, sisters; Mary, Willie Mae, Madge and Joyce.
She is survived by her sons, Bill (Kaye) Abel, Jr. and Greg (Martha) Abel, daughter; Regina (Terry) Locklear, Grandchildren; Bill (Robin) Abel, III, Sue (Matt) Vavrock, Megan (Kirby) Martin, Gina Locklear, Emily (Jesse) Greening, great-grandchildren; Will, Eddie and Rosemary Abel, Ava and Zack Vavrock and Jack Lochlann McDowell, sisters; Katherine Garrett and Tommie Sue Givens, several nieces and nephews and special friends; Lurlene and Harold Smith and Jim Green.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Paden Ridge Assisted Living, Dr. Courtney Lowe and to the 6th floor staff of Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday.
