

Homegoing service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Collier-Butler Chapel. Burial will follow at Crestwood Cemetery. Rev. Harvey Beck will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.
Mrs. Lankford was born December 1, 1939 in Etowah County to the late Roy Pruett and Lena Pruett. She devoted her life to serving the Lord and her family. Her devoted faith in God and the power of prayer guided her total commitment to every member of her family. She was a longtime member of Bellevue Baptist Church and was presently a member of White Springs Baptist Church. Marie was employed for a number of years with Prudential Insurance and over 20 years at Gadsden Lighting-Showroom. She enjoyed taking care of her family which included, delicious home cooked meals for her children and grandchildren that can never be duplicated. She maintained a daily Bible study and prayer time with her Lord, Jesus Christ. When unable to attend church, she would faithfully watch Dr. Charles Stanley on television.
She was preceded in death by her son, Gregory Scott Lankford; mother, Lena Pruett; father, Roy Pruett; sister, Brenda Elkins; in-laws, Eldred and Maedell Lankford; niece, Beverly Stinson; brother-in-law, Ray Gargus.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her loving husband of 55 years, Bill Lankford, and her daughters and sons-in-law, Tina and Lee Herring, Huntsville, and Heather and Tim Staton, Ashville.
She had a special love and treasured her granddaughters. Her life with her granddaughters was short. but her legacy will forever be cherished by McKenzie and Ava Staton and Hallie Herring.
Marie is also survived by her sisters, Mary Anne Gargus, Huntsville, and Joy Morrow, Alexandria; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ladale and Charlotte Lankford, Southside; brother-in-law, Ken Elkins, Atlanta. Her extended family includes many precious nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones.
Pallbearers will be Ladale Lankford, Jonathan Lankford, Eddie Wrenn, Matt Elkins, Marc Elkins, Tim Staton, and Lee Herring.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to Camellia Hospice Care; Riverview Regional Medical Center and ER and staff.
The Lord is her Shepherd. She did not want. He gave her rest in green pastures. He led her to calm water. He gave her strength. He led her on the paths of righteousness. He restored her soul. He led her through the Valley of the Shadow of Death and she feared no evil, for He was with her. His goodness and love followed her all the days of her life and now she dwells in the house of the Lord forever.
