

Born on October 13, 1946, in Gadsden, AL, Jean was known for her love of cooking, Auburn football, playing dominoes and her love of her family. She was a 1965 graduate of Emma Samson High School and after years of raising her girls went to work for East Alabama Skills Center where she remained until her retirement in 2008.
She was preceded in death by her parents Johnny and Ruby Proffitt, in-laws, PH and Pauline Petty, sister, Judy Smith, brother, Wayne Proffitt, sisters-in-law, Donna Proffitt, Patricia Petty and Frances Helms, brothers-in-law, Jimmy Smith and Kenneth Helms and nephews Wayne Proffitt Jr. and Ben Bentley.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her husband Jimmy Petty, daughters, Misha (Phillip) Stephens and Meleia (Jason) Walker. Grandchildren, Dominique (Sam) McIntosh, Alex (Rachel) Stephens, JT (Linda) Stephens, Aiden Walker and Abby Walker. Great grandchildren, Nora McIntosh and Lila McIntosh, sister, Joan Weygand and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved her dearly.
Visitation will be held at Collier Butler Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at 12:30 pm with graveside service lead by Eddie Nichols at Rainbow Memorial Gardens to follow at 2:00 pm.
Pallbearers will be Phillip Stephens, Jason Walker, Alex Stephens, JT Stephens, Aiden Walker, Sam McIntosh, Jay Smith, Johnny Smith, Freddy Weygand and David Taylor.
