Mary Ellen Smith Smith Carter

Mary Ellen Smith Carter, 65 of Gadsden, AL passed away Friday, August 15, 2014. A memorial service will be held at 6:00pm Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Collier-Butler Chapel. Reverend Richard Lewis will officiate. The family will accept friends from 4-6:00pm. Collier-Butler Funeral Home & Cremations Services directing.

Mary Ellen Was born November 10, 1948. She was in the graduating class of 1966 from Gadsden High School. Mary continued her education at Jacksonville State University where she studied Secondary Education. She was a former social worker for the Etowah County Department of Human Resources from 1970-1999. Mary had several interests which consisted of upholstery, wood working, sewing, crafts of all kinds, and cards. She was a computer whiz, and she enjoyed doing small engine repairs. Mary Ellen was a jack of all trades.

Ms. Carter was preceded in death by her parents, J.E. and Christine Smith; and her daughter, Christa Carter.

Survivors include her daughter, Lori Carter (Kevin Goodnight); and her grandsons, David Lumpkin and Trevin Goodnight.

The family would like to give a special thanks to everyone with Amedisis Hospice and all of Mary’s friends that have been by her side.
