Maxine Jenkins, 74, of Southside, AL, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 29, 2021. A funeral service will be help at 2:00PM on Monday, August 2, 2021, at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. Bro. Chris Cornutt and Bro. Porter Burtram will officiate. Burial will follow at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements,
Maxine was kind, caring, and had a loving heart. She loved the Lord and singing his gospel hymns. She had a smile that touched everyone she came in contact with. Her grandbabies meant the world to her and she loved spending time with them. Maxine went by another name, Nanny. She was not only Nanny to her babies, but the friends of her babies and any young person that entered her life. She was the best at any role she filled whether it be daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin, or friend.
Mrs. Jenkins is preceded in death by her parents, Troy Washington Freeman and Dorothy Lee Tucker Freeman; sisters, Maddie Elizabeth Beasley, Dorthy Jane Snider, Samuel (Pearline) Robinson; brother, Thomas (Tommy) Edward Freeman; and husbands, Tommy Layton, Lowe Battles, and J.D. Jenkins.
Maxine is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Johnny) Handy; son, Tommy Lee (Shay) Layton; grandchildren, Josh (Kiley) Morrison, Autumn (Kory) Oliver, and Trevor Layton; great grandchildren, Augustus Morrison, Atticus Morrison, Kip Oliver, and Baby Oliver; and several nieces nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Josh Morrison, Trevor Layton, Robert Morrison, Andrew Jones, and Kory Oliver.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Nanny’s medical team, led by Dr. Uy and Dr. Manikil, for their professionalism and dedication to our grandmother. Also a special thank you to Riverview Regional Medical CCU nurse team. The nurses allowed us to gather at her bedside to witness her homecoming with her beloved Jesus. It was a gift our family will never forget.
The family will accept friends from noon until the hour of the service at the funeral home on Monday.
