Michael Byrne Witherspoon

Michael Byrne Witherspoon, 76, of Gadsden, AL, passed away surrounded by his family on September 28, 2026. A Graveside Service will take place on Friday, October 2, 2026 at 2 PM at Rainbow Memorial Gardens (1440 W Grand Ave, Gadsden, AL 35904) officiated by Rev. Sherri Reynolds.

Mike graduated from Gadsden High School. He proudly served in the United State AIr Force from 1970 to 1972, during the Vietnam War. Following his deployment, he returned to Alabama and attained his master's degree in financial planning from the University of Alabama. He built a successful career in banking, until his retirement from Wells Fargo in 2004. Mike loved golfing, bass fishing, and spending his time drinking coffee at the Huddle House.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Ella and Millard, and his brothers, John, Steve, and Bruce. He is survived by his wife, Sheila; his sister Joan; his uncle Del; his children Teena and Joey; his grandchildren Adam, Evan, and Anna; his great grandchildren Alyssa; his son-in-law Rodney; and cousins. Mike will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and his calm spirit.

Friends and family are invited to Rainbow Memorial Gardens on October 2nd at 2:00PM for a Graveside Service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Alabama City Methodist Church, Gadsden First United Methodist Church, or to a charity of your choice in honor of Mike.
