
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Collier-Butler Chapel for Mildred Christine Isaac, age 90, of Attalla, who passed away Monday, December 5, 2016. Minister Jeff Clevenger of Ashville Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.
Mildred, a child of the Great Depression, dropped out of school early and worked in cotton mills in Gadsden, AL and in Texas. In about 1956 she went to work at Observer Office Supply Store and returned to high school, earning her degree. She remained employed at Observer until age 80, retiring as shipping manager. Her hobbies were jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles, which she did in ink. Also, after all the sisters neared retirement, they formed The Saturday Club, always going somewhere together on Saturday and frequently taking long weekend and week-long trips with niece Sharon L. Chambers as the driver and tour guide.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl, Jr. and Mae Isaac; siblings, Helen McCurdy, Hazel Walker, Carl Isaac, Jr. Margaret Chambers, and Bobby Isaac; and seven nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her niece and housemate, Sharon L. Chambers; niece and transportation assistant, Melba Cook; niece and cooking assistant, Pam Kieth; other nieces and nephews, Linda Shipman, Brenda Bryant, Rebecca Shearman, Debbie Mathis, Cindy Beaman, Jeff Chambers, Lisa Crawford, and Wade Isaac; and too many great and great-great nieces and nephews to name.
Honorary pallbearers are Fifth Floor of Riverview Regional Medical Center, Dr. Urbina and the full team treating Ms. Isaac at Riverview; and Dr. Ralph Wesley, her lifelong medical doctor, also Dr. Tony Catanzarol.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
