Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Collier-Butler Funeral Home, with Pastor Sylvester Smith and Pastor Derrell Rackard officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial with military honors will follow at Rainbow Memorial Gardens.
Morris was born on July 10, 1934, in the Sand Mountain area and grew up in Altoona, where he attended school. After high school, he married the love of his life, Nora Hart, in June 1953. In September of that same year, he enlisted in the United States Air Force.
Upon returning home from military service, Morris began a distinguished career in law enforcement. He joined the Gadsden Police Department in 1958 and retired in 1982. After briefly working for the Etowah County Sheriff’s Department, he joined the Rainbow City Police Department in 1983. He became Chief of Police in 1986 and later retired after 21 years of service to Rainbow City.
Chief Alexander served as past president of the Etowah County Law Enforcement Association and the Patrolman’s Association. He was a former member of the Alabama Police Chief’s Association and the Alabama Peace Officers Association, as well as a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
In addition to his law enforcement career, Chief worked in an upholstery shop, recovering furniture and car seats. One of his family’s funniest memories was watching him unfold his six-foot-six-inch frame from a Triumph Spitfire he had driven home so he could continue working on its upholstery.
Away from work, he treasured time with his family, especially cruising the Coosa River on his pontoon boat, enjoying picnic lunches, swimming, and, of course, fishing. He also enjoyed reading books by Louis L’Amour. A man of faith, he attended Living Waters Church for many faithful years and served as a deacon.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nora E. Alexander; parents, Carl H. and Julia Alexander; sister, Sara E. Alexander; and granddaughter, Sonya K. Ogles.
He is survived by his son, Keith Alexander; daughters, Sharon (Joey Willut) Ogles, Caren (Glenn) Talley, and Lisa Johnson; brother, Gary (Sherry) Alexander; and brother-in-law, Larry (Brenda) Hart.
He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Jamie Bryant, Wesley (Kesha) Braddy, Josh Alexander, Chris Ogles, Susan Sidibe, Traci Reynolds, Kristi Johnson, and Jonathan Reynolds; great-grandchildren, Noah Bryant, Dakota Bryant, Kaci Braddy, Lily Alexander, Raven (Ryan) Bostick, Shai Ogles, Javonte (Harmony) Pope, Davarious Pope, Javarious (Angelica) Pope, Torriana Kouliho, Abbie Ogles, Courtney Woods, Kyra Woods, Daniel Sidibe, O’Loni Boley, Devin Mostella, Alysia Mostella, David (DJ) Looney, and David Gee Alexander; and a host of great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Chris Ogles, Devin Mostella, Jonathan Reynolds, Wesley Braddy, David G. Alexander, and Michael G. Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be the Gadsden Police Department, Etowah County Sheriff’s Department, and Rainbow City Police Department.
Collier-Butler Funeral Home, 824 Rainbow Drive, Gadsden, Alabama 35901, is directing.
