
Graveside services will be at Edgemont Cemetery in Anniston, AL on Monday, April 4, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. for Mr. Morris Eugene Whatley, 87 of Gadsden, who passed away April 2, 2016. Rev. Ron Downey will officiate. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Mr. Whatley was a native of Calhoun County and a longtime resident of Etowah County. He was a member of James Memorial Baptist Church and was retired from the Etowah County School system as the Curriculum Director. He was also an avid Alabama fan.
Mr. Whatley was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth C. Whatley; parents, Luther and Leva Whatley; son, David Craig Whatley; and son-in-law, Carey Newton.
He is survived by his son, Stanley (Diane) Whatley, Washington, D.C.; daughters, Sharon (Glenn) Hughes, Ft. Payne, and Sherie Newton, Gadsden; grandchildren, Matthew (Brandee) Hughes, Summer (Mike) Robertson, Tyler (Ashley) Hughes, Stephanie Oldham and Andrew Oldham; great-grandchildren, Grady, Luke and Lily Robertson, Conner and Kyndal Hughes, and Aubrey-Kate Newton; and nephew, Roger Dempsey, Piedmont.
Visitation will be Monday from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Collier-Butler Funeral Home.
