Nell Gilbert

She was born in Horton, AL on 5/2/1929 and graduated Douglas High School, attended Athens College in AL, and was hired by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., where she met her husband Fay B. Gilbert, who became Manager of Accounting. They lived in East Gadsden and were members of East Gadsden Baptist Church. In 1964 they were transferred to Los Angeles CA with Goodyear and lived 6 years in Whittier CA where Nell was in choir and women's missionary union at a First Southern Baptist Church there. Nell enjoyed her time in California having guests from Alabama, seeing the sights and going to the Lawrence Welk show where she danced and yodeled on stage impromptu. She made a group of friends who mostly were from Alabama, and they continued to keep in touch after the Gilberts were transferred back to Gadsden in 1970. In Gadsden, they joined the First Baptist Church of Gadsden, where they were actively involved. Nell was a seamstress who helped make bed pads for the sick and was a volunteer at the dental clinic at church. She served in the Senior choir and was in Annette Cassidy's Sunday School class. Nell was a past president of The Woman's Club of Gadsden, in the Goodyear Women's Club, in the Gadsden Gadabouts, and most recently in a group of women friends who played Mexican Train Dominoes. She loved to entertain, and many were welcome in her home to eat her home cooking.

Nell was preceded in death by her daughter Cindy Gilbert, husband Fay B. Gilbert, parents Charles Burtis Moultrie and Ola Mae Moultrie of Albertville, brothers Ray Moultrie(Inez) of Albertville, Bob Moultrie(Ruby) of Chattanooga, Joe Moultrie (Colleen) of Madison, sister Ivalene (Volis) Buckelew of Albertville.

Nell is survived by her daughter Peggy G. Fields of Brentwood, TN, her brother Glen(Joyce) Moultrie of Chattanooga, grandchildren Clayton(Megan) Fields of Woodstock, GA, Lauren(Witt) Parrish of Franklin, TN, Michael(Molly) Fields of Cambridge, MA, grandchildren Delaney and Remi Kate Fields of Woodstock, GA, William, Caroline, Cassidy Parrish of Franklin, TN, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 11:00am-12:00pm Saturday, Oct 4th at Collier Butler Funeral Home in Gadsden, AL and the memorial service will be there at 12:00pm. Nell will be buried at Crestwood Cemetery in East Gadsden. In place of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Gadsden, the VFW, or the charity of your choice.
