Mrs. Gore was born August 05, 1925 in Glencoe, Alabama. She was one of seven siblings: Elizabeth Johnson, Sadie Heneghan, Bill Lay, James Lay, Latha “Snook” Lay and Pat Lay, all of whom preceded her in death. She was married to LCDR Lawrence Comer Gore, a career Navy man, and she followed him as a faithful Navy wife, being stationed in many places all over the world, including Seattle, WA, San Francisco, CA, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to name a few. She was a wonderful pianist, and had pupils in every city that she lived; including Glencoe, Alabama, where she and her husband retired after a long and adventurous life in the Navy. In Glencoe, they lived at the old family place and enjoyed tending their organic gardens, canning and raising their prized Lhasa Apsos that Nettie often took to dog shows. Nettie was an avid genealogist and historian, and often traveled often to do research. She was much respected in the genealogical community. Later in retirement, they moved to Rainbow City to be closer to family. Just as her beloved husband Lawrence, Nettie passed peacefully in her own home, surrounded by family.
The family will receive friends and family on Monday, July 13th at 12:00 pm at Collier-Butler, with a service to follow at 2:00 pm. Nettie will be laid to rest with the love of her life at Southside Memorial Park. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.
She leaves to cherish her memory her two loving daughters Suzette (Benny) Steward and Marie (Ben) Hoft, her many granddaughters Mary Dollar, Erica Player, Laura (Kip) Walden, Mellissa Holland, Katy (Will) McGowan, Amy (Randy) Robertson and Kimberly (Joshua) Holmes. She was also blessed with numerous nieces and nephews, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren that she loved very much. Contributions to her burial fund can be made to Collier Butler Funeral Home.
