A private, family burial will be held with Pastor Mat Alexander officiating. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing. There will be a visitation and memorial held at a later date for everyone.
Mrs. Higgins graduated from Gadsden High School. She received her Bachelor of Science and Master’s Degree from Jacksonville State University. She started teaching high school math at Westminister Christian School and then taught at Emma Sansom and Gadsden City until her retirement. Mrs. Higgins was a member of First Baptist Church of Gadsden, where she served in many capacities. She loved keeping the nursery and helping with Vacation Bible School and McSpadden Music Camp. She was a member of multiple Mah Jong groups, the Antiquarian Society and other volunteer groups.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ollie Wilson Nabors and Leatha Thornton Nabors.
Mrs. Higgins is survived by her loving husband, Roger Higgins; her daughter Jana Higgins Tarleton and husband Mike; her son Eric Higgins and his wife, Elizabeth; and her grandchildren, Hannah Leath and Mattie Alan Tarleton, Wilson Noble and Samuel Thornton Higgins; and many cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 235 S. 5th Street, Gadsden, AL 35901 or a charity of your choice. An announcement will be made when the Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
