

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Collier-Butler Funeral Home for Ronald "Bruce" Whorton, 60, of Gadsden. The Reverend Larry Fuhrman will officiate. Burial will be in Hughes-Moragne Cemetery. Bruce is a 1969 graduate of Glencoe High School. He was employed by Bell South for 32 years and also served in the Army and Navy Reserves for 24 years. He was a member and former deacon of First Baptist Church Gadsden. Loving husband, father and friend who never met a stranger and treated everyone with respect.
He was preceded in death by his parents Horace Herman Whorton and Demyrle Jones, father-in-law Harry Death and brother Mike Whorton.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 37 years Sherry Death Whorton; daughter Brittney (Chris) Hill, son Blake Whorton; sisters, Carla Graves, Paula Drinkard, Mona Robinson, Donna Whorton; mother-in-law Carolyn Death; sister-in-law Debbie Boggs; brother-in law Danny (Kelly) Death, and nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Jeremy and Justin Boggs, Michael and Shane Butterworth, Gabe Graves, Landon and Taylor Robinson, Drake Whorton, Bret Parker and Jared Death. Honorary pallbearers include Chuck Welch, Tony Dean and neighbors.
Special thanks to Dr. Lowe, Dr. Feist and Leslie. Also, to the nurses and staff of the 5th and 7th floors of GRMC, to Dr. Guy Walker and to the staff of Northside Healthcare.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Gadsden or The Alzheimer's Association.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Collier-Butler Funeral Home.
