Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday-July 8, 2011 at Collier-Butler Chapel for Rev. Leon McCoy, age 62, Gadsden, who passed away Tuesday-July 5, 2011 . Rev. Ken Cato will officiate with burial at Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services Directing. Rev. McCoy was a native of Etowah County. He received his bachelor’s degree in religion from Samford University and later received a master’s degree in special education from Jacksonville State University. He also received his master’s degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, was currently serving as pastor of West End Baptist Church and a special education teacher at Duck Springs Elementary School. Rev. McCoy had served as Chaplain in the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Alma McCoy and adopted mother Sarah Wilder. He is survived by his wife, Judy Wilson McCoy, daughters, Karen Thompson and husband Jeff and Sharon Morgan and husband Barry. Grandchildren; Emory Thompson and Isla Morgan, sisters; Nell Helms, Gertie Jones and Mary Pemberton, brother; David Wilder, several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to any favorite charity. Pallbearers will be; Terry Helms, Adam and Daniel Wilder, Brian Wilson, Herbert Muhr, Fletcher Ray and David Moore. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.Thursday evening at the funeral home.
