
Funeral for Richard D. Betts, 62, Gadsden, will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015, at Collier-Butler Chapel. Rev. Ernest Campbell and Rev. Kenneth Lasseter will officiate with burial to follow at Rainbow Memorial Gardens.Richard graduated from Saks High School and received an Associates Degree in Computer Science from GSCC. His hobbies included genealogy and Auburn Football. Richard has been a member of Rainbow City Lions Club for 26 years. He also served as District Governor, Cabinet Secretary/Treasurer for Lions International. Next to God and family, Richard loved the Lions Club where he could serve his fellow men. Richard was a past employee of Gulf States Steel and was presently employed by BAE Systems as an electrical engineer and as Financial Secretary for Local Union. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.Richard was preceded in death by his father, Arthur N. Betts.He is survived by his wife, best friend and love of his life, Janice Fry Betts; daughters, Angie Loucks (Dee) and Lindsey Betts; son, Jason Betts; mother, Maxine Betts; brothers, Gerald and Don Betts (Penny); and grandchildren, Kaleb Lackey, Konner Loucks, Alex and Alyssa Betts and Julie Mabrey.Pallbearers will be nephews.Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association; American Heart Association , Southeastern Diabetes Education Services or Rainbow City Lions Club.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.Online condolences may be made to the family at www.collier-butler.com.
