
Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2013 at Collier-Butler Funeral Home for Roger Lavelle Johnson, 72, who peacefully passed away April 25, 2013. Rev. John Mullaney will officiate. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Methodist Church Cemetery in Leesburg. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Roger was born in Tuskegee, AL on November 16, 1940. He attended Eclectic High School and graduated from the School of Pharmacy at Auburn University in 1962, where he was the second youngest student to graduate from Auburn School of Pharmacy up until that time. He loved singing in the church choir and fishing. He worked for 42 years at Riverview Medical Center (formerly Holy name of Jesus Hospital). For 36 of those years he was Director of the hospital pharmacy. He loved his work and was passionate about being able to help patients recover.
He was preceded in death by his mother Margie Nell Bush Johnson; father, E.B. Johnson; and sister-in-law, Nancy Pope white.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki Pope Johnson; two sons, Jay Johnson, and Mark C. (Brenda) Johnson; grandson, Trace Welling; granddaughter, Taylor Welling; nieces, Megan White and Paige Burkhalter; great-niece, Brindlee White; and sister, Angelyn (Bill) Burkhalter.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the UAB Diabetic Research Program, Division of Endocrinology, 1808 7th Ave S., B.D.B. 706, Birmingham, AL 35294.
Visitation will be from 1:30-3:30 Friday, April 26, 2013 prior to the service.
