Burial will follow at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Reverend Craig Carlisle will officiate.
Sue L. Glidewell is preceded in death by her parents and ten siblings; husband, Horace Leon Glidewell; and daughter Cathy. Grandchildren are Amanda Blalock, Daniel and Devon Glidewell, Brent and Sara Nowell, Taylor Stephens, and Anna Stephens. Her great-grandchildren are Reese and Riley Blalock, Gabriel Glidewell and Brylee Mueller, and Kathy Sue, Tucker James, and Lorelai Gayle Nowell.
Mayor Sue served the City of Rainbow City for thirty-seven years – thirteen as City Clerk and twenty-four as Mayor. As an ambassador for Rainbow City she served on numerous committees and boards within Etowah County and the State of Alabama. She was a charter member of Coosa Valley Baptist Church and later a member of Southside Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and sat on the same pew every week with her grandchildren. At home, she enjoyed playing bridge with her dear friends, working the crossword and cryptogram every day, and avidly watched Alabama football. She was a servant of her Lord, her family, and her city – always putting others before herself.
Pallbearers for the service are Brent Lang, Daniel Glidewell, Brent Nowell, Taylor Stephens, Allen Hawkins, and Jeff Lankford. Honorary pallbearers are current and former employees of the City of Rainbow City.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caregivers of Regency Pointe and the entire staff of Riverview Medical Center ICU, Attorney Jim Turnbach, and Mayor Joe Taylor of Rainbow City.
