

Trygeric ‘Tryke/Try” Dondrell McKinney, age 53 of Attalla, AL passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at home. Trygeric was a graduate of Etowah High School and attended Brewer State Community College. He faithfully served his community for over 19 years, beginning his career as a Corrections Officer and Patrolman at the Etowah County Sherriff’s Department and ending his career as a Lieutenant with the Attalla Police Department. Trygeric loved patrolling his community, stopping to talk with people and meeting people who were new to the Attalla Community. He enjoyed assisting the elderly with their groceries and was passionate about encouraging youth to stay on the right path. Trygeric was known as the “Gentle Giant.”
Trygeric leaves to cherish his memory, his loving sister Tasha DeLat Branch of Birmingham, AL; uncles SQ (Sue) McKinney, Gaston, AL and Darnell (Jacqueline) McKinney, Birmingham, AL; aunts Ollie “Emma” Gist, Mary Lee Thaxton, Oceanside, CA, and Bernice Geeter, Sylacauga, AL; and a host of special cousins and dear friends. Trygeric is preceded in death by his mother Arquela McKinney DeLat, Attalla, AL; father Ronnie Kendrick, Cleveland, Ohio; baby boy Trygeric McKinney, Jr.; uncles James “Bit” McKinney, Gadsden, AL, Ocie McKinney, Youngstown, OH, and Juanita Johnson, Gadsden, AL.

A family visitation for Trygeric will be held Friday, November 17, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Collier-Butler Funeral Home, 824 Rainbow Drive, Gadsden, AL 35901. A visitation for friends will follow from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A funeral service will occur Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 12:30 PM at the Collier-Butler Chapel. He will lie in state at the funeral home from 10:00AM until 12:00PM prior to the service. Try will be laid to rest at Forrest Cemetery, 700 S 15th Street, Gadsden, AL 35901, with full police honors.
