

Vernon Lee Walters, age 68, of Southside, AL, passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2022. A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Collier-Butler Chapel. Rev. Jan Stanley will officiate. Burial will follow at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Southside, AL. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements. The family will accept friends from 1:00PM until the hour of the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.
Vernon was a 1973 graduate of Emma Sansom High School and a proud retiree of U.S. Steel. He loved Alabama football, fishing, playing cards with his buddies and spending time on the river with his family and friends. He always made it a point to give back by being a dedicated contributor to St. Jude’s Hospital and he taught his children and grandchildren the value of humor and laughter by always being playful and ready with a joke at just the right time.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gina Walters; Parents, Robert Emmett and Eugenia Clara Walters; brother, Allen Walters, and sister, Farris Pitts.
Mr. Walters is survived by his daughters, Brittney (David) Stephens, and Brandi (Kenny) Clevenger; granddaughters, Clara Jane Stephens and Ellie Clevenger; sister, Jane (Jan) Stanley; and special friend, Linda Davidson.
Pallbearers will be David Stephens, Kenny Clevenger, Jimmy Abernathy, David Sewell, Fuhrman, and Scott Walters.
