

Monday, May 14, 2012. Graveside Services will be held today, Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Forrest Cemetery at 1:00pm. The Reverend Robbie Hendrick and Ray Tucker will officiate. Collier-Butler Funeral Home is directing.
Virginia Sanford McCleskey was born on July 26, 1922 in Piedmont, Alabama. Mrs. McCleskey lived most of her life in Etowah County. She was a member of Rainbow Presbyterian Church. She was a longtime member of Eastside Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school to adults and youth for many years. She loved to study the Bible and share her love for the scriptures with others. Mrs. McCleskey was very civic oriented who enjoyed working in activities that improved her community. She worked diligently in the Gadsden Woman’s Club, the P.T.A. of J.L. Wagner School, and the Girl Scouts. Mrs. McCleskey was an exceptionally good southern cook who was well-known for her wonderful cakes and breads. She thoroughly enjoyed preparing delicious, attractive meals for her family, friends, and church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Andrew McCleskey; her parents, Lemuel Dan and Icy Sanford, and a precious friend, Sylvia Stewart.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Andrea and Douglas Bedwell, Mary and Dale Fielder; grandson: Mac Bedwell; granddaughter, Mary Virginia Langley; great grandson, Matthew Langley; sisters; Cora Dean Carr, and Sandra Smith; sister-in-law, Dot Thomas, many beloved nieces and nephews: special friends, Mattie Major and Martha Wright.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Robert Smith, Craig Smith, and Tommy Townsend, grandson, Mac Bedwell, dear friends, Bill Stewart and Mitchell Stewart.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Rainbow Presbyterian Church.
The family will receive friends from 11:00-12:30 at Collier-Butler Funeral Home.
