Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 31, 2012 at Collier-Butler Chapel for Walter Vernon Moon, 85, Gadsden who passed away Thursday. Revs. George Lankford and Jeremy Williams will officiate with burial at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services Directing. Mr. Moon was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Etowah County Rescue Squad with 22 years of service and was the first chief of Lookout Mountain Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary L. Moon Son, Danny Moon Daughter, Valinda (Roy) Cleveland Grandchildren, Kristopher Moon, Brandy Lauffer, Kasara Moon, Sumer (Steven) Chestnut and Jennifer (Jeremy) Williams 6 great grandchildren 1 great great grandchild The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

I am sorry to hear of Vernon's passing. My deepest sympathy is extended to Mary, Danny and Valenda. I knew Vernon for over 35 years and valued our friendship and the work he did to establish the Fire fighting abilaty for our community. God Bless you all.
