

Funeral services will be Sunday, July 29, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Collier-Butler Chapel for Wayne G. Sheffield, 78, of Southside, AL. Revs. L. Dale Butler and James Owens will officiate. Burial will be in Forrest Cemetery.
Mr. Sheffield passed away at his home on Thursday, July 26, 2012, with his family by his side. Wayne was a charter member of Valley Baptist Church where he was a member of the Board of Trustees and remained active until the time of his death. He retired from Gulf States Steel with 29 years of service and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was very active in retirement in spite of an accident that left him paralyzed at the age of 59. He always had a smile and a kind word to say to everyone he met.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janice Noel Sheffield; his son, Charles G. “Charlie” Murray and wife Regina Barron Murray; his wonderful grandchildren, Jennifer Murray Patterson and husband Wesley J. Patterson, Charles A. “Andy” Murray and wife Charla Carver Murray; the lights of his life, his great-grandchildren, Cole, Carly and Cason Patterson; sister, Ruth Keenum; special niece and friend, Donna Nail, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Bill and Lula Phillips Sheffield; brothers, Hershel, Clyde and Max Sheffield; sisters, Effie Lee Anderson and Ruby Kate Waring.
Pallbearers will be Daryl Nail, Danny Nail, Zac Nail, Darryl Martin, Marvin Owens Jr. and Daniel Bates.
Honorary pallbearers will be all members of Valley Baptist Church.
Special thanks to Shelley Klein and Cleasta Dupree of Gentiva Home Health, Glenda Lemaster and Darcie Raines of Lawley Hospice, and daytime caregiver Paige Pope.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Valley Baptist Church Special Projects Fund: 3640 Oak Grove Rd, Gadsden, AL 35905.
The family will receive friends Saturday, July 28, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
