Wilfred George Mahy

Wilfred George Mahy, age 90, of Aloha, Oregon passed away at 4:03 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2022 in Rainbow City, Alabama. Wilfred was born in Kelowna, British Columbia (Canada) on November 14th, 1932 to Wilfred James Mahy and Winnifred Adele Mahy, Salvation Army Officers. He grew up in British Columbia and Washington State (USA). He served in the United States Army in the 1950's - Stationed in Berlin, Germany. When he returned to civilian life in the summer of 1956, he met the love of his life, Lieutenant (or as Wilf would say, Leftenant) Devera Janice Hurn, in Olympia, Washington. They were married a few months later on January 26th, 1957. He raised his family in Seattle, Wenatchee (Washington), and then Aloha, Oregon where he and Devera lived for 58 years. Wilfred taught music and mathematics in Wenatchee and then the Portland Public School district.

Wilfred loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and prayed daily for his family and friends. He was a Salvationist through and through, and served in the Salvation Army as a bandmaster of the Portland Citadel and then Tabernacle Band. He mastered playing the euphonium and trombone. His love for animals was known by all who knew him.

Wilfred is survived by his wife, Devera; his children, Cris Mahy (Karen), Cristine Green (Steve), Claudia Lewis (Hayden), Craig Mahy (Barbara); ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

A graveside service for Wilfred will be held Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Hwy 119, Montevallo, AL 35115.
