Windon was born in St. Clair County, Alabama. He graduated from Ragland High School in 1979, received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (UAB 1984), a Master of Nursing in Community Health (Troy State 2007), and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (Samford University 2010). He became an active faculty member at Jacksonville State University College of Health Professions and Wellness after over 20 years of bedside nursing in Critical Care. He married Shasta Fuhrman in 1988, and they lived together in Southside Alabama. Together they raised 2 children.
He leaves as his legacy his daughter, Morgan Ash Edge and his son, Lee Everett (Hannah Phillips) Edge. He was extremely proud of his children and daughter-in-law for their scholastic accomplishments and their professional jobs. His children remember him as a kind, loving and patient man.
He also leaves to cherish his memory sister Lynn Reeves (Garland); brother, John Belton (Loucille); brother-in-law, Gehrig (Carmen) Fuhrman; along with multiple nieces and nephews. Included are multiple 'inherited through marriage' relations, including much loved Uncle Jim L. Fuhrman.
He was preceded in death by father, (Windon E. Edge, Sr); mother; (Rubye Hall Edge Sisson); father-in-law, (Gerald W. Fuhrman) and mother-in-law, (Betty A. Fuhrman).
Windon began his career at UAB Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit where he met his wife, Shasta. Many experiences and fun memories were shared between them both. Windon followed his bedside nursing career as an active faculty member at Jacksonville State University, involved in the training and development of future nursing professionals in Bachelor and Master program. He served JSU as Associate/Professor for 4th level BSN program (2007-2018), Faculty Senate President (2020), Coordinator of BSN program (2018-2021) and Director of Collaborative Affairs (2021-2023).
Upon retirement in 2023 he found joy in his duties as board member and volunteer at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Southside, Alabama. He passionately taught the SBC 50'S-60's Co-ed Small Group Sunday School Class for many years. He enjoyed continuing the research begun by his mother of familial genealogy for the Edge family.
Many enjoyable hours were spent surrounded by his children at the super table discussing politics, laughing and showing his love to all. These last few years will be precious memories for us all. The ability to laugh and talk about previous work experiences and workmates will be greatly missed by his wife.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 13, 2025, at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. Rev. Larry Fuhrman will officiate. Burial will follow at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. The family will accept friends from 12:00 pm until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. Checks can be made out to Pilgrims Rest Cemetery and sent to 3171 Hawthorne Circle Southside, AL 35907.
Thank you for all the sweet memories shared and the prayers for his family.
