Caroline Keiper Mullins Fisk died peacefully at age 98 on June 18, 2023. A fourth generation Caroline, she was the middle daughter of the late Caroline Price Keiper and William Jacob Keiper and the beloved sister of the late Mildred Keiper Kline and the late Mae Keiper McCorkle.
Nicknamed Billie by her father (who wanted a boy), she grew up in Columbus, Ohio. Caroline worked at Nationwide and, along with her sisters, was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her sister Mae introduced Caroline to her co-worker at the electric power company, George Mullins. Caroline and George were married in 1950. With his new wife’s assistance, George began working at Nationwide. They lived in Columbus before George was transferred to Elyria, Lorain and eventually Canton, Ohio, where they settled with their children, Sandye and Bill. The family attended Zion United Church of Christ in North Canton. They enjoyed spending time with the Mullins and Keiper families and taking long family trips with good friends. Caroline worked for many years as a secretary in North Canton’s Plain Township School System, where she was beloved by faculty and students alike.
After retirement, Caroline and George built a home on Lake Lanier in Gainesville, GA to be closer to their children. They became active members of Atlanta’s Central Congregational Church, UCC. After George’s death in 1988, she enjoyed traveling with her daughter and granddaughter, Sarah. In 1996, Caroline married Irving Fisk, a fellow UCC congregant. They built a new home together in Gainesville, where they enjoyed an active life of travel, classes at Brenau University, and spending time with their families. Health issues slowed Caroline down after Irv’s death in 2020. In 2022 she moved into Smoky Springs Senior Living in Gainesville, where she quickly made new friends.
Caroline will be remembered for her deep love of and commitment to family, strong faith, keen mind, love of dogs and cooking (but not together) and sense of humor. April Fool’s was her day. No one other than her children would take her phone calls, because no one believed a word she said on April 1st! She’ll forever be associated with her favorite song, “Sweet Caroline.”
Caroline leaves behind many loving family members and friends. She is survived by daughter Sandra Mullins (Sergei Grigorian), son William Mullins, grandchildren Sarah Garnitz Benedict (Paul) and Clinton Mullins, great-grandchildren Lylah and Kai Benedict, and former son-in-law Rick Garnitz. On the Fisk side, she leaves Gail Anderson (Larry Bishop), Patricia (Brent Ridley), Sally (Brooks Lamberth), and Paul Fisk (Ashley), grandchildren Ed Anderson (Lamar), Katie (John McGoogan), Jenny (James Boone) and Rosie Lamberth, Kallie Ridley and Marett Fisk, and great-grandsons Julian and Simon Anderson. Her loss is also deeply felt by many loving nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.
The family appreciates the care provided by Loving Hearts, especially Tennille, Ana, Ellie, and Patricia.
