Carrie Belle Starcher passed away at her Gahanna home on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the age of 96. She was born on October 18, 1925 in Blandville, WV, the 9th of 14 children born to Harley Zachariah and Alma Atha Merryman Childers. She married Bernard Dale Starcher on March 27, 1948. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 10 siblings: Audra Lipscomb, Lucille Lipscomb, Grace Greathouse, Elva Cottrill, Thelma Sprouse, Charles Childers, Glenn Childers, Helen Coe, Atha Dowler, and Kenneth Childers. Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Jim Sponaugle; grandson and wife, Brien and Alaina Sponaugle; grandson and wife, Kevin and Sonya Sponaugle; great-grandchildren Mae, Odelia, and Ellis Sponaugle; step great-grandchildren Mallory, Bryson, Samuel, and Courtney Routsong; siblings Ruby Clevenger, Arthur Childers, and Cecil Childers; numerous nieces and nephews.
Carrie was a 67 year member of New Albany United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and active in the Alethean Class until she had to quit attending in person due to health reasons. She retired from Western Electric/AT&T after 25 plus years. She enjoyed ceramics, playing cards, and traveling with family and friends. In her later years, she enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, adult coloring books, playing games on her computer, and Skyping with her family.
Visitation will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH 43230, where a service will begin at 12:00 Noon; interment to follow at Maplewood Cemetery in New Albany, Ohio.
