Charles Johnson

Charles Arthur Johnson, age 85, of The Villages, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2025, in the company of family. Charles was born on April 1, 1940, in Caldwell, Ohio, to the late Earl and Daisy. He graduated from Caldwell High School in 1958 and went on to work as a mechanic at Goodale Auto Parts and Markon; ramp agent at Allegheny Airlines; and an engineer at Anheuser-Busch in Columbus, Ohio, from 1977 to 2002.

In 1960, Charles married the late Sylvia Wheeler, and together they raised three children in Gahanna, Ohio. Charles and Sylvia had six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. After his retirement, they made Ocala, Florida, a second home, where they enjoyed a strong community full of friends and neighbors. Charles loved golfing, racquetball, skiing, traveling with Sylvia, and the company of several family dogs throughout the years.

He is survived by his loving partner of 2 years, Elaine Judith DeFoe; his children, Kimberly (Russell) Leach, Penny (Scott) Mastenbrook, and Tim Johnson; his six cherished grandchildren: Justin (Jocelyn) Leach , Brandon (Mary) Leach, Johsua (Kate) Mastenbrook, Amanda Johnson, Leandra (Matt) Schiefer, and Lacey (Eden) Johnson; and three beloved great-grandchildren: Caden, Cora, and Nora. He is also survived by his brothers, Darl Johnson of Richmond, Virginia, and Ronnie (Diane) Johnson of Marietta, Ohio. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his brother, James "Jim" Johnson.

Charles’ funeral service will be held at Schoedinger Northeast Funeral Home, 1051 E Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH 43230, on Thursday, July 3, beginning at 4:00pm. Visitation will be held following the service from 5:00pm until 7:00pm.

Charles will be laid to rest with his beloved Sylvia at Mifflin Township Cemetery at a later date.
