

David (Dave) Russel Rockel, 81, of Gahanna, Ohio, passed away on May 28, 2026 surrounded by family after a series of illnesses. Born on February 20, 1945, in Springfield, Ohio, to Russell and Frances Rockel, Dave built a life defined by hard work, dedication, and care for others. He graduated from Springfield North High School and began his career with International Harvester before moving into sales across several industries. For many years, he was the owner-operator of a trucking company specializing in hauling automotive manufacturing components. Later, he worked as a concrete mixer driver for Anderson Concrete, retiring in 2014. Never one to slow down for long, Dave went on to become a school bus driver for Gahanna Jefferson Public Schools, a role he thoroughly enjoyed until 2025. His passion was riding motorcycles, logging countless miles on his Harley, including a trip with his wife Vicki throughout Maine and a solo trip to Glacier National Park in 2016. He is preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Rose, and great granddaughter Sophia. Dave is survived by his wife of 18 years, Vicki; his daughter, Michelle (Rob); his sons, Michael (Melissa), Adam (Leah), and Brian (Justin); his grandchildren, Courtney, Katie, Ethan (Sarah), Austin, Lou, and Betty; and his great-grandchildren, Marleigh, Azpen, and Beckham. Additionally, he is survived by stepsons Scott Reidenbaugh and J.B. Reidenbaugh, and step-granddaughters Carly, Reese and Anna. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his steady presence, and the love he shared with his family. Visitation is Thursday June 4th from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Schoedinger Margarum Northeast located at 1051 E. Johnstown Rd, Gahanna, OH 43230. The ceremony is on Friday June 5th at 10:00 am at the same location. Dave will be buried at Ferncliff Cemetery and Arboretum, 501 W. McCreight Ave., Springfield, OH 45504 Friday June 5th at 1:00 pm.
