Dave was born to the late Wanda Bruckelmeyer (nee Cook) and Homer Schroeder on September 19, 1946, in Columbus, Ohio. Dave grew up on the west side of Columbus and was in the West High School class of ’64. He ultimately moved and graduated from Pleasant View High School.
In 1969, he graduated from The Ohio State University with an Industrial Engineering degree and later earned an MBA from Xavier University. While attending OSU, he worked for Buckeye Steel. After graduation, Dave worked for the 3M Company in Saint Paul Minnesota and upon his return to Columbus worked for Ross Laboratories (Abbott Labs) for 31 years. While there, he led the development of the Ross Park complex (Stelzer Rd.).
He didn’t realize how most of his adult life was to be spent on the grounds of OSU. OSU football games were a big part of his life – never missing a game for years! He volunteered for The James Cancer Hospital as a concierge and with a program to help others with cancer titled, Helping Others through Peer Experiences (HOPE).
Dave was preceded in death by his mother Wanda Bruckelmeyer, stepfather Howard Bruckelmeyer, father, Homer Schroeder, and his son Stephen.
Dave will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 36 years, Cindi Schroeder; his children Mike (Lori) Schroeder; Matt (Bettina) Schroeder, brother Dan (Elaine) Schroeder, cherished grandchildren Parker and Ollie Schroeder; nephews Chris (Amie) Schroeder; Adam Lewis; nieces Ashley Lewis; Kara (Austin Breslow) Lewis; mother-in-law Norma Lewis, brothers-in-law Jeff (Andrea) Lewis and Don Lewis; sister-in-law Tina O’Donnell; great-nephews Landon and Easton Schroeder and great-niece Vivian Schroeder and a host of extended family and dear friends.
