Dean was an honorable, hardworking man. He served his country in the USMC from 1953-1961. Dean retired in 1996 from Western Electric/Lucent Technologies. He never turned down an opportunity to work or lend a helping hand.
Dean’s family was his passion. He loved to stay busy working with his hands, building things, fixing cars and working in the yard. There wasn’t much he couldn’t fix. He enjoyed spending his time outside morning, noon, and night; especially if it was a sunny day. He loved to play games with this family, especially cards and dice. He also loved fishing, taking walks with his family, and watching football any chance he got.
Dean always had a warm smile, a safe embrace, and trusting eyes (covered by the best set of eyebrows you’ve ever seen), a hot cup of black coffee, a cold Blatz, and a pipe with a fragrance that created wonderful memories for everyone who knew him.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, David and Freda Cassady; brothers Glen and Jack Cassady; and sister Darlene, as well as his in laws William and Clara White and great-grandson Noah Carter.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Juanita and their children; Jody Collins, Beth (Terry) Williams, and Ed (Denise) Cassady; by his grandbabies, who lovingly called him PapPap, Jenifer (Eric) Alexander, Mandy (Packy) Rouille, Nick Carter, Sarah Storts, Evan (Angela) Williams, and Brandon Cassady; his great- grandbabies, Kalee (Brennan), Peyton (Amari), Parker (Madelynne), Kenzie (Riley), Corbin, Kaylee, Zander, Cassady, Ava, Viggo, Dylan, Bre, and Cadence; the great-great grandbabies Ari, Lola, Luna, Raelynn and two littles on the way; and brother Stanley and sister Carol as well as countless nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 18, from 4pm-7pm at Schoedinger Northeast Funeral Home, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH 43230. Dean’s funeral will take place the following morning, May 19, at the funeral home at 11am. Services will conclude with interment at Mifflin Township Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff in the ICU at Riverside Methodist Hospital for their care, compassion, and kindness.
