Derek Jeffrey Vargas

On Thursday, October 13, 2022 Derek J. Vargas, a beloved husband, sadly passed away. He was seventy. Following service in the Marine Corps, Derek graduated from Spartan School of Aeronautics with an Associate in Applied Science. He went on to become an Aviation Maintenance Technician for several major airlines. Derek was an avid chess player, and spent many years enjoying this pastime with close friends, and retired military buddies. His life was a living example of love, devotion, and kindness. To his wife and family he was loving and caring. Derek is lovingly remembered by his wife, Maxine (Duckett) Vargas, his mother, Thelma (Harris) Vargas, his brothers, Marcos Vargas and Ricardo Vargas (Rowena) and his sister-in-law Joan (Jerry) Duckett-Hall.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Vineyard Church of Columbus in Westerville, Ohio at 10:00 am. At the conclusion of the service, the family will travel to Mifflin Cemetery in Gahanna, Ohio for a Graveside committal service at 11:30 a.m.
