There will be a gathering of family and friends on Sunday, November 15, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna, Ohio 43230.
Dorothy was born and raised in Altoona, Pennsylvania, to Leo and Dorothy (Nagel) Vaughn. She was the youngest of 10 children, seven sisters and two brothers, all of whom have passed on before her. Along with her parents and siblings, she will be reunited with her son, Sonny Hoaglund, and grandson, Kyle Galloway.
Dorothy will be missed by so many, but none so much as her family. She leaves behind her children: Sherry (Charlie) Breitenbach, Elizabeth Galloway, Richard Hoaglund, and Heather (Michael) Velliquette, all of Ohio.
She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Jennifer Breitenbach, Summer Chester, Nick Hoaglund, Andrew Hoaglund, Kurt (Kathrina) Juergens, Evan Goodin, Cassie (Gregg) Herbst, and Lacey (Michael) Van Dyke, as well as her great-grandchildren, Savannah, Cheyenne, Kayden, Adalyn, Ellie, Odin, and a new baby due in January.
Dorothy left home to join the Marines with a group of friends. We always had a great laugh at the fact that, out of that group, she was the only one to actually sign up. She was forever proud of her time in the service.
Dorothy spent her life pouring love and care onto her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Dorothy was a social butterfly, and there wasn't anyone she didn't like. Because of that, she enjoyed a wide and long list of friends.
She was a gamer before the word was popular. Her games consisted of those she could enjoy face-to-face with other people sitting around the table. Cards, Yahtzee, bingo—you name it, and she was ready to play.
Dorothy was a kind and gentle soul, always putting others before herself. Even when she was deep into dementia, she would offer her food to the others around the table. She had an insatiable need to fix, clean, or rearrange everything in the house. She could definitely be described as a neat freak.
There are no words to describe how much she will be missed. Her warmth, kindness, and love will remain with us always. Rest in peace, sweet and gentle soul, until we meet again!
