Born and raised in New Albany, Elizabeth graduated from New Albany Plain Township High School in 1955. She worked in insurance until she got married in 1975, then moved to Massillon, to be with her husband Norman. Together they built a life and welcomed their daughter. After Norman’s passing , she returned to New Albany, where she was deeply involved with the New Albany Historical Society, cherishing the town’s history and her many friendships there.
Elizabeth was a proud Ohio State fan, rarely missing a football or basketball game on TV. She was known for her sharp wit, unwavering spirit, and just the right amount of orneriness—traits she carried until the very end. She loved a good book and always had one nearby. She had a lifetime of patience, especially when it came to putting up with her daughter, who freely admits to being a pain in the ass, but will miss her tremendously.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Steffanie Feichter, who was by her side through it all. Also, surviving is her brother Dan (Dot) Shockey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman R. Feichter; her father, John R. (“Bob”) Shockey; her mother, M. Elizabeth Shockey; her brother, John D. Shockey; and her sister-in-law, Marie (Feichter) Vasco.
A memorial service will be held at Schoedinger Northeast Funeral Home, 1051 E Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH 43230, on Friday, August 15, at 10:00am. Services will conclude with a graveside committal ceremony at Maplewood Cemetery in New Albany.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Albany Historical Society in her honor.
Steffanie would like to acknowledge the hard work and kindness of the nurses and doctors of Residential Hospice of Elmhurst, Residential Home Health of Lisle, and Elizabeth’s medical care team at Edward-Elmhurst and Midwest Cardiology. Also, a heartfelt thank you to The Home Depot of Oakbrook Terrace and the Village of Villa Park.
